From call center to freedom
I started in a call center at 18 and spent eleven years there, working my way up to quality analyst. It taught me discipline — and also that I'd spent a decade never deviating from a script.
When I finally left, it took me three and a half years to land my first freelance client, mostly because I didn't know how to translate call-center experience into skills a business would pay for. Once I figured that out, everything changed.

Seven and a half hours on the floor, two ten-minute breaks — when workforce actually allowed them. Some days there were none: no lunch, no bathroom time, because the queue was too long and no one cared. I got good at the job — floor walker, acting supervisor, quality analyst, across several accounts. But the call center trains you to follow a script and never take initiative. That's a skill and a trap at the same time.
When I joined a Virtual Assistant agency, nobody handed me a script anymore. A client needed a flight booked, a meeting scheduled across three time zones, a follow-up drafted — things that sound simple but felt enormous after a decade of doing the same task the same way. I figured most of it out with Google and by deciding not to quit.
I came close to scams along the way, both financial and identity theft, before I learned to present my experience — operations, quality processes, client communication, documentation — as something remote-ready. That lesson cost me years I could have saved.
What started as a leap of faith turned into nearly 10 months across 6 countries in South America, working remotely while discovering new places and a new way of thinking about what a career can look like. Afterward, I was invited as a panelist by Pro Freelancer, one of the most active freelancer communities in El Salvador, to talk about that freedom and how AI was already reshaping how we find work.
I spent seven months building the bootcamp that grew out of that talk — not to sell a course, but because I know exactly what it feels like to be stuck behind a headset thinking there's nothing on the other side of those walls. That life is far away now, and it can be for you too.
